Senator-Elect Debicella Appointed to Key Legislative Committees

State Senator-elect Dan Debicella (R-Shelton) has been named to several key legislative committees for the next two years by Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca (R-Woodbury).  Senator-elect Debicella will serve as lead Republican, or Ranking Member, on the Commerce Committee and the Higher Education & Employment Advancement Committee.  He was also appointed to the powerful budget-writing Appropriations Committee as well as the Environment Committee.

“I would like to first thank Senator DeLuca for giving me the opportunity to serve on these important committees.  I am certainly excited about the upcoming legislative session, especially now that I have the chance to serve on committees that will have a real impact on Stratford, Shelton, Monroe, and Seymour and the State as a whole,” stated Debicella.

Debicella noted that these appointments will allow him to work directly on issues he cited during his campaign—lowering taxes, protecting the environment, and bringing economic development to the region.

“On the Appropriations Committee, I will work to control the growth of state spending in order to keep taxes down for families and small businesses,” Debicella said.  “Being on the Environment Committee will enable me to work on protecting Long Island Sound and promote the preservation of open space in our communities.”

“As Ranking Member on both the Commerce and Higher Education Committees I am looking forward to helping lead the debate on legislation that will spur economic development and create new jobs for Connecticut residents,” Debicella said.

The Committee Assignments will take affect when Debicella is sworn in as State Senator on January 3rd, 2007 – the first day of the new legislative session.
