Senator Dan Debicella
(R-21) said he is delighted that a state Department of Developmental
Services (DDS) residential facility in Stratford will receive
state funding for various improvements when the State Bond
Commission meets on Wednesday, December 12th.
“The Ella Grasso Center provides
much needed services, including respite services, to some
of Connecticut’s most vulnerable citizens and their
families, and I am thankful that Governor M. Jodi Rell supports
investing state funds in improvement projects for this facility,”
said Senator Debicella.
The Ella Grasso Center serves mentally
handicapped people unable to live on their own. Included
in the State Bond Commission agenda is funding to upgrade
the sprinkler system at the facility, along with funding
repair interior finishes, doors and stairways, and to upgrade
flooring.
The Ella Grasso is one of several state
Department of Developmental Services facilities expected
to receive funding for various improvement projects when
the State Bond Commission meets this week. With State Bond
Commission approval, the regional facility will share $96,000
in funding to repair interior finishes at six group homes,
and share $64,000 in funding to upgrade flooring at seven
group homes. Also, the Stratford facility is expected to
share $250,000 in funding to repair the sprinkler systems
at two state-owned facilities.
“Our communities deserve to have
up-to-date facilities for those who cannot care for themselves.
Our community is compassionate towards those in need, and
this bonding money will ensure that much needed improvements
are made,” Senator Debicella said.
