Senator Dan Debicella, R-21, applauded
the State Bond Commission for approving a $3-million grant-in-aid
to reimburse the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority
(CRRA) for costs associated with the closure of the Shelton
Landfill. The State Bond Commission approved the funding
on Friday, March 30th.
“I want to thank Governor
Rell for supporting this measure. Without the state’s
help to reimburse the CCRA reserve account used to complete
the landfill closure project, towns belonging to the Bridgeport
Project, including Shelton, would be looking at substantially
higher tipping fees,” said Senator Debicella.
The Bridgeport Project operated by the
CRRA includes a mass-burn trash-to-energy facility, eight
transfer stations, two landfills, a regional recycling center
and the Stratford-based Children’s Garbage Museum.
The Shelton Landfill is closed. Twenty cities and towns,
including Shelton, are members of the Bridgeport project.
“Residents of the communities
that belong to the Bridgeport Project have reason to be
grateful to their municipal leaders, including Shelton Mayor
