Senator Cathy Cook, R-Mystic, said today that she is grateful to Governor M. Jodi Rell for helping Connecticut’s businesses get more defense contracts. The Governor announced today that she is supporting the State Bond Commission’s expected investment of state funds to provide a supplemental grant-in-aid to help further the work of the Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region Corporation (SECTER).
The State Bond Commission on Friday, December 9th, is expected to act on a proposed $357,500 supplemental grant-in-aid to SECTER to match an equal federal grant from the Department of Defense through the Defense Logistic Agency for the Connecticut Procurement Technical Assistance Program (CTPTAP) which provides no cost marketing and technical assistance to Connecticut businesses to help them see their products and services to federal, state and local government agencies.
“The PTAP program is managed our of SeCTer in New London, but has offices in several cities across the state, providing leads on contracts, technical assistance and support to our companies which have products and services that can be purchased by the Department of Defense. Connecticut’s businesses have been providing innovation and design for the defense of our country since the Revolutionary War. This program continues that legacy of connecting the “genius of Connecticut” with the needs of the nation,” commented Senator Cook.
“Over the past few years, this program has helped small businesses that do defense-related work earn over $200 million in contracts. This is extremely important to the southeastern Connecticut economy because, among other benefits, it means jobs. I worked with both Governor Rell and the state’s Office of Policy and Management Secretary Robert Genuario to get this proposal for a grant on this month’s Bond Commission agenda. This is excellent news for our region,” said Senator Cook.
