Senator Cathy Cook, R-Mystic, has been named by Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr.
(D-Brooklyn) to serve as a member of the Economic Trade and Cultural Affairs Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures for 2005-2006.
"I am thrilled to be appointed to this committee. I will be building on my experience in helping Connecticut businesses compete in the global economy. I look forward to the opportunity to work with legislators from other parts of the country to discuss our mutual concerns and to learn from each other how best to help our own states. I thank Senator Williams for this opportunity," said Senator Cook.
The NCSL Economic Development, Trade and Cultural Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over state and federal issues related to economic development, international trade, housing and cultural affairs. The committee educates Congress about state concerns related to federal actions that impact these issues. In addition, it serves as a forum for legislators and legislative staff to share information about policy options being considered in other states. The range of issues covered by the committee is very broad and ranges from business development and tax incentives to trade agreements and export promotion to affordable housing to the role of the state in developing arts and cultural policies.
