State Senator David Cappiello (R-Danbury) was named the Ranking Member of the General Assembly's budget-writing Appropriations Committee today by Senate Minority Leader Lou DeLuca (R-Woodbury). In addition, Senator Cappiello was re-appointed as Ranking Member on both the General Law and Internship Committees as well as re-appointed to the Judiciary Committee. He will also continue to serve as the Deputy Minority Leader for the 2005 and 2006 Legislative Sessions.
"I would like to thank Senator DeLuca for these re-appointments and especially for entrusting me as Ranking Member on Appropriations," said Senator Cappiello. "I am looking forward to what promises to be a challenging year. With a $1.2 billion budget deficit looming, we need to keep our state's priorities in order and make responsible spending decisions. I have several ideas to curb state spending and keep our budget balanced that I plan on bringing forward this session."
"Senator Cappiello has the experience and knowledge from serving for the past several years on the Appropriations Committee to step right in and be an effective Ranking Member," said Senator DeLuca. "I am confident that his talents and insight will serve our caucus well in this very important capacity."
Senator Cappiello was elected to his fourth term representing Danbury, Bethel, New Fairfield, and Sherman in November. |
