State Senator David Cappiello (R-Danbury) and State Representative Janice Giegler (R-Danbury) announced over $2 million in state funding for Western Connecticut State University this morning. The funding was awarded through the State Bond Commission and will help address a variety of improvements and alterations to the WestConn campus in Danbury.
"The commitment to improve Western and all our State Universities on behalf of the Governor's office and the state legislature continues with today's announcement. We have helped to transform the facilities at Western into some of the best in the state and helped attract many of the brightest students from across Connecticut," said Senator Cappiello.
" The bond commission has been generous to WestConn over the past 10 years as is reflected in the improvements to the grounds and facilities on both the downtown campus and Westside Campus," said Rep. Giegler. "With additional funds that have been authorized by the General Assembly, we can be proud of the success of WestConn and in the growth of the student body. This funding is important to the continued initiatives the University is taking to enhance its programs and its facilities."
$1.2 million of the funding will be used for either new or replacement equipment including research, lab, and physical plant equipment. An additional $505,000 will be put towards repairs and alteration in campus buildings including the Litchfield and Newbury Hall Lounges and the Pinney and Grasso Hall Recreation Areas. The final $380,00 will help with, among other things, some safety code improvements including the installation of a library book theft detection system. |
