State Senator David Cappiello (R-Danbury) was one of four state legislators honored today by the Connecticut Association of Non-Profits (CAN) for his steadfast commitment and service to Connecticut's nonprofit sector. Irvin Jennings of Danbury Children and Family Aid, Gary Kozak of the Danbury YMCA, and Jennifer Sheehy of the Mid-Western CT Council on Alcoholism (MCCA) presented Senator Cappiello with his award at the annual Statewide Nonprofit Conference this morning at the Farmington Marriot.
The conference addressed the topics of quality and accountability and featured a key address by legendary reporter Helen Thomas. CAN's mission is to support and strengthen nonprofit organizations throughout the state in building and sustaining healthy communities.
"It's an honor to be recognized by such a wonderful organization," said Senator Cappiello. "The last several years I have made looking into more creative and innovative ways to secure funding for our non-profit community one of my top priorities. I look forward to continuing to advocate on behalf of non-profits and helping citizens get the high quality care and assistance they deserve."
Senator Cappiello has been a lead proponent of non-profits assuming services previously taken care of by the state.
"Connecticut's non-profits provide outstanding services to thousands of state residents in need each year and their employees truly care about their clients," added Senator Cappiello. "I am working with my legislative colleagues to direct some much needed resources to our non-profits community, which would also save the state hundreds of millions of dollars. It really is a no-lose situation for everyone involved."
Senator Cappiello was recently re-elected to his fourth term representing the 24 th district communities of Danbury, New Fairfield, Sherman, and Bethel. |
