State Senator David Cappiello (R-24 th ) along with Representatives Janice Giegler (R-138th) and Mary Ann Carson (R-108th) announced today that the town of New Fairfield will be awarded $350,000 in state funding as part of the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). The funding will help with the continued construction of walking pathways through the Town Center as part of the STREETSCAPE project.
"I would like to thank Governor Rell for her commitment to ensuring that small towns such as New Fairfield receive their fair share of funding from the state," said Senator Cappiello. "I am a big proponent of promoting local businesses, so I am pleased that shops located in New Fairfield's town center will now get even more business thanks to these new pedestrian walkways."
"I'm happy we were able to honor the town's request funding for this funding," said Rep. Carson. "The project continues walking paths. As a member of the Legislature's Bonding Subcommittee, it was important to me to maintain funding for the STEAP program, which reduces the impact of local taxpayers in small towns as part of the STREETSCAPE project.
"As legislators, we strive to work with local officials to enhance our community," said Rep. Giegler. "This will enable the town to extend its renovation project from Town Hall to the surrounding shopping areas."
STEAP funds economic development, community conservation and quality of life projects for localities that are ineligible to receive urban action bonds. The program is administered by the Office of Policy and Management. |
