Senator David Cappiello (R-24th), on behalf of several other
state and local officials, is pleased to announce that the
State Bond Commission will award $808,291 to the Mid-Western
CT Council on Alcoholism (MCCA) for costs related to the construction
of a new residential facility in Danbury. The new building
will be used to treat mental health and substance abuse issues
affecting teenagers. “I’d
like to thank Governor Rowland and the State Bond Commission
for approving this funding. This is just another fine example
of the ongoing positive partnership between the state of
Connecticut and the city of Danbury,” said Senator
Cappiello. “MCCA and its employees have been an asset
to Danbury and its surrounding communities so I am pleased
that I was able to help them secure these funds.”
In
the past, MCCA has primarily served adults with substance
abuse problems, but an increased need for similar treatment
for adolescents led to this extension of their services.
“We
were happy that we could respond to the increased demand
for these services among youths in Connecticut,” said
Joe Sullivan, the President and CEO of MCCA. “I am
grateful for the strong support the organization has received,
not only for this project, but throughout the years from
elected officials at both the state and local level.”
“The MCCA for over thirty years has provided a tremendous
service to our area community and to citizens in need throughout
Connecticut. I am pleased that the state has agreed to cover
a significant amount of the cost of this worthwhile endeavor,”
said Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton.
“Any
additional treatment facilities that are available to adolescents
are much needed in Danbury,” said state Representative
Janice Giegler (138th). “This allocation will enhance
and supplement existing services within our community.”
“It’s
wonderful news for the Danbury area that MCAA will have
a new facility to assist their staff in continuing their
work of helping local youths,” said state Representative
Hank Bielawa (R-2nd).
MCCA
has been in existence since 1972. Its primary location is
on Old Ridgebury Road in Danbury, although it also runs
several additional facilities throughout Western Connecticut.
The
State Bond Commission will meet tomorrow at 10:30 AM at
the Legislative Office Building in Hartford to officially
approve the funding.
