Sen.
Cappiello Testifies on Behalf of Non-Profit Organizations |
State
Senator David Cappiello (R-Danbury) testified in front of
the Public Safety Committee at a public hearing today in favor
of legislation he helped draft that would assist not-for-profit
organizations with their fund raising. The bill, SSB 263,
would expand current state law and allow non-profit organizations
to accept credit cards as payment for raffle tickets.
“This is a bill that I have pursued for several sessions
now. It really is common sense legislation that would give
much needed assistance to many worthy causes,” said
Senator Cappiello. “Raising a sufficient amount of funds
is necessary for any charitable group to reach its goals,
and the General Assembly ought to be making every effort it
can to assist them.”
If the legislation is passed, people may be more apt to offer
financial assistance to one or more of the many worthy state
and national organizations.
“I am confident this bill would lead to an increase
in charitable donations. It makes it easier on those who generously
contribute to their favorite charitable group by giving them
another payment option,” continued Senator Cappiello.
“Plus, their credit card bill acts as a receipt when
tax season rolls around.”
Senator Cappiello represents the 24th state senate district
consisting on Danbury, Bethel, New Fairfield, and Sherman.
