Senator David Cappiello (R-24th), as well as state Representatives
Janice Giegler (R-138th) and Hank Bielawa (R-2nd) are happy
to announce that the State Bond Commission has approved over
$600,000 in bonding for Danbury. The state will provide $554,165
to finance several improvements to public schools in Danbury.
In addition, the city will receive $78,121 to help pay for
a variety of construction projects as part of the Local Capital
Improvement Program (LoCIP). “Ensuring
that children in Danbury learn in the best environment possible
is always at the top of my list of priorities each year.
These are much-needed state funds that will make our schools
cleaner and safer for our youth now and in the future.”
said Senator Cappiello. “On behalf of the Danbury
delegation, I would like to express our thanks to the Governor
as well as the members of the Bond Commission for approving
this funding today.”
“As
the State and municipalities struggle with their budgets
in difficult economic times, these capital improvement dollars
directed to Danbury will fulfill a need within our city,”
said Rep. Giegler. “Improvements to our school infrastructures
are often set aside in order to allocate more dollars to
curriculum, staffing and funding mandates. The need for
improvements to our school buildings has been in the forefront
as Danbury proposes a Bond Package to enhance our schools
and address overcrowding. Receiving dollars from the Bond
Commission for the maintenance and repairs to our existing
buildings couldn't come at a better time as we move forward
with proposals for school projects.”
“We
were fortunate to have funding for these items approved,”
said Rep. Bielawa. “These are worthy projects that
will benefit the community, especially those that will make
for safer buildings for our schoolchildren.”
Danbury
is one of 17 priority school districts that received the
school funding because they are ineligible for reimbursement
under the Local School Construction Program. The funding
allocated to these 17 school districts is primarily used
for general improvements to school buildings that includes
but is not limited to window and door replacement, upgrades
to restrooms and lighting, and the installation of security
equipment.
The $78,121 was part of $10 million LoCIP package. LoCIP
is a state administered fund that helps towns pay for eligible
local capital improvement projects such as road, bridge
or public building construction activities without depending
solely on property tax revenues or bond sales. Improvements
in Danbury include upgrades to the police station, firehouse,
and city hall.
