John “Corky” Mazurek (D- Southington, Wolcott),
Rep. Joe Aresimowicz (D-Southington, Berlin), Rep. Zeke Zalaski
(D-Southington), and Sen. Sam Caligiuri (R-Southington, Cheshire,
Waterbury, Wolcott) announced today that the Southington YMCA
secured $125,000 in state bond funding for renovations and
improvements to the Camp Sloper Skate Park when the State
Bond Commission met on Friday morning. The
renovations will include new ramps, quarter pipes, pyramids,
grinding rails, fun boxes, flat banks, and spines.
Rep. Mazurek, Rep. Aresimowicz, and Sen.
Caligiuri met with Governor Rell’s office urging her
to put the bond funding on the agenda for the commission’s
next meeting. The legislators have been strong advocates
for this badly needed funding.
“I am very pleased to report that
these improvements are in sight for the town of Southington,”
Rep. Mazurek said. “By getting these funds approved,
we can help residents and their children have a safe activity
place for recreation, sport, and exercise.”
“There are many parts of this job,
and one of the most important is bringing home the bacon,”
Rep. Aresimowicz said. “I’m proud that this
delegation has been able to do that on a consistent basis
and help Southington get its share of the pie.”
“We can all be proud of these much
needed funds,” Rep. Zalaski continues. “These
are the kind of services that make our community stronger
and will also help keep kids off the streets.”
“I am delighted by the prospect
that this funding is coming home for the betterment of the
lives of our young people, and to help the Southington YMCA’s
ever expanding role as a leader in Southington,” Sen.
Caligiuri said.
